File-level backup tools were built for physical servers. When a VM fails, you don't want to restore individual files, you want to restore the entire machine state in minutes. Acronis Cyber Protect handles Hyper-V and VMware environments at the hypervisor level, capturing complete VM snapshots that can be restored as a running virtual machine without any reinstallation, reconfiguration, or data loss.
Agentless, no software inside the VM
Acronis protects Hyper-V and VMware guests without installing an agent inside each virtual machine. Backup is handled at the hypervisor level via VSS (Windows) or VMware snapshot APIs, meaning backup operations don't consume VM resources and can't be blocked by OS-level problems inside the guest.

We configure backup jobs per VM with appropriate schedules, typically full weekly, incremental daily, sized to your RPO requirements. Critical VMs get shorter incremental intervals.
Granular recovery
Full VM restores take minutes. But when you only need to recover a single file or database record from inside a VM backup, Acronis allows file-level and application-item recovery without a full VM restore, saving time when only partial recovery is needed.
Replication to secondary location
VM backups are replicated off-site, to Acronis Cloud or a secondary site, so a failure of the primary hypervisor host or storage array doesn't take both your VMs and their backups simultaneously.
Restore time verification
As part of Sentire's restore testing service, we run quarterly VM restore tests and measure actual restore time against your RTO target, not estimated restore time based on backup size.
Supports both Hyper-V and VMware
Acronis Cyber Protect covers Microsoft Hyper-V (all versions) and VMware vSphere/ESXi environments.
