Traditional antivirus blocks known threats based on signatures. Sophos MDR is a 24/7 managed security service that uses AI-driven detection plus human analysts who actively hunt for threats and respond to incidents. MDR catches novel attacks — ransomware, fileless malware, credential theft — that antivirus does not recognise until it is too late.
Standard antivirus blocks commodity threats but leaves significant gaps. It does not monitor network traffic, detect suspicious user behaviour, protect cloud identities, or respond actively when something gets through. Most breaches start with credentials or phishing, not a file that antivirus can scan. Layered protection covering endpoint, network, email, and cloud identity is the minimum for any business handling sensitive data.
Sophos MDR analysts triage the alert and either contain the threat automatically or contact your designated escalation contact. Critical threats are contained first and reported immediately. Lower-severity events are investigated and reported in your next security summary, with a clear timeline of what happened and what was blocked.
The DPA 2019 requires data controllers to implement appropriate technical safeguards. Sentire's cybersecurity service provides documented access controls, endpoint protection, encryption, and incident response procedures. We can assist in preparing the technical annexe to your Data Protection Impact Assessment and provide the audit trail evidence the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner may request.
A standard endpoint protection deployment across 20-50 devices takes two to three business days, including policy configuration, testing, and staff briefing. Firewall deployment and network security hardening are assessed per-site and typically take one week. We do not rush deployments — a misconfigured security control creates more risk than a delayed one.
The retainer covers Sophos MDR monitoring, endpoint protection management, firewall policy management, monthly security reporting, and access to the Sentire security team for questions and incident response. Licence costs for Sophos products are included in the retainer price or quoted separately depending on your device count.
