Common questions about Microsoft
What is the difference between Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Standard, and Premium?
Business Basic includes web and mobile versions of Office apps, Teams, Exchange, SharePoint, and OneDrive. Standard adds the desktop Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Premium adds the full Microsoft Defender and Intune endpoint management suite — the plan most businesses with security and compliance requirements should be on. Sentire advises on the right tier for your actual usage and budget.
Does Microsoft 365 include Teams, or is that a separate product?
Teams is included in all Microsoft 365 Business plans at no additional cost. It covers chat, video meetings, file sharing, and integration with SharePoint and OneDrive. Teams Phone (adding PSTN calling capability) is a separate add-on and is the basis for Sentire's hosted PBX deployments using 3CX alongside Microsoft 365.
What is Microsoft Entra ID and do we need it?
Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory) is Microsoft's cloud identity platform. It is the backbone of Microsoft 365 user management — every Microsoft 365 tenant already uses Entra ID. The free tier covers basic user management. Entra ID P1 (included in Microsoft 365 Business Premium) adds conditional access policies, multi-factor authentication enforcement, and hybrid identity for organisations with on-premise Active Directory.
How does Azure differ from Microsoft 365?
Microsoft 365 is a productivity suite: email, collaboration, and office applications. Azure is a cloud infrastructure platform: virtual machines, databases, storage, networking, application hosting, and hundreds of developer and AI services. Many organisations use both — Microsoft 365 for their staff productivity tools and Azure for their server workloads and custom applications.
Can Sentire migrate us from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365?
Yes. We handle the full migration: email (Gmail to Exchange Online), files (Google Drive to SharePoint and OneDrive), calendar and contacts, and any shared drives. We run migrations during off-peak hours to minimise disruption and keep both environments active during the transition period. Staff training on the Microsoft 365 interface is included.
Do we own our data if we use Microsoft cloud services?
Yes. Microsoft's terms state that you own your data and Microsoft acts as a data processor on your behalf. Microsoft does not use customer data to train AI models or for advertising. Under the Kenya DPA 2019, you remain the data controller and are responsible for ensuring that Microsoft's data processing terms are appropriate for your use case.
