A new business number, ready when your VoIP system is

Number porting — transferring an existing number from one carrier or system to another — is not currently supported by Kenyan carriers for VoIP deployments. What IS available is getting a new Direct Dial In (DDI) number provisioned directly via Safaricom, Airtel, or Telkom SIP trunks. For most businesses moving to VoIP, a new number is an opportunity: a clean, professional number that is associated with your cloud phone system from day one, with no legacy baggage.

What about my existing number?

Your existing mobile or landline number can continue to be used as a contact number, with calls forwarded to your VoIP system. Sentire configures call forwarding from your existing number to your new VoIP DDI as part of the transition, ensuring no calls are missed during the changeover period.

Number provisioning options

Safaricom DDI numbers

Safaricom Business SIP trunks provide DDI numbers on Kenya's largest network, with competitive rates for calls terminating on Safaricom mobile. Sentire handles the Safaricom Business registration, SIP authentication, and number assignment.

Airtel DDI numbers

Airtel Business SIP provides DDI numbers and competitive rates for Airtel-to-Airtel calls. Configuring Airtel SIP alongside Safaricom gives your business carrier redundancy: if one provider has an outage, calls automatically route via the other.

Telkom Kenya landline numbers

For businesses that need a traditional Nairobi landline number format (020 prefix), Telkom Kenya SIP trunks provide landline DDI numbers that behave as local geographic numbers while routing through your VoIP system.

Multiple numbers and extensions

Your VoIP system is not limited to one number. Departments, teams, and even individual staff members can have their own DDI numbers, all routing through the same 3CX platform and manageable from the same admin console. Additional numbers are provisioned quickly as your business grows.

Transition approach

Sentire provisions and tests your new DDI numbers before your VoIP system goes live. On go-live day, your new numbers are active and routing correctly. For the transition period, call forwarding from your old number to the new DDI ensures no inbound calls are lost while you communicate the number change to your customers and update your marketing materials.

New number provisioning is part of Sentire's VoIP communications service, delivered alongside VoIP system deployment and SIP trunk integration.
