What makes this different from a standard NVR

A standard NVR records footage and plays it back. Synology Surveillance Station does that — and then adds a layer of intelligence, centralised management, and cloud-protected storage that standard NVR hardware cannot match.

The platform runs as software on a Synology NAS. That same NAS can also run encrypted backups and file storage, so your organisation gets three infrastructure functions from one managed, monitored device.

AI detection that eliminates noise

Deep-learning motion analysis classifies every event in real time. People and vehicles in defined zones trigger alerts. Wind, animals, and environmental movement do not. The result is a security system that alerts only when there is a genuine reason, not dozens of false alarms daily that staff learn to ignore.

Smart video search lets you find relevant footage by object type, movement direction, or time range in seconds. If an incident occurred between 10pm and midnight and involved a vehicle, you search for that. You do not scrub through six hours of recording manually.

Multi-site management for distributed organisations

Hotel groups, retail chains, school networks, and NGOs with multiple offices all face the same problem: cameras are distributed across locations that each have their own recording hardware. Managing them means logging into each separately. Synology's centralised management system changes this. One dashboard covers every camera across every site. Health monitoring, live view, playback, and alert management all work from the same console, whether you are at your desk or on a mobile device.

Cloud-protected recordings

Surveillance365 stores an automatic offsite copy of all recordings. If the local NAS is stolen, destroyed in a fire, or encrypted by ransomware, the footage is not lost. It is recoverable from the cloud copy. This is particularly important for organisations that rely on CCTV footage for insurance claims, incident evidence, or regulatory compliance under the Kenya Data Protection Act 2019.

Retention periods are configured per camera or per site. Footage older than the defined period is automatically deleted — which is exactly what the DPA requires for CCTV systems processing personal data.

Works with cameras you already have

The platform is compatible with over 20,000 IP camera models from all major manufacturers. If your existing cameras are ONVIF-compatible, Sentire can layer the surveillance management platform on top of what is already installed. There is no requirement to replace hardware that is working. This makes Synology Surveillance Station a genuine upgrade path rather than a replacement product.

Physical security integration

Connects to door access control systems, alarm panels, ZKTeco biometric readers, and IP speakers. When a detection event occurs, the relevant camera feeds are pulled up automatically. When a door sensor triggers, the camera covering that door starts recording. IP speakers can broadcast automated announcements when intrusion zones are crossed. Physical security becomes a joined-up system rather than disconnected devices.
